Buffaloes are big, heavy mammals. They live in hot places in Africa and Asia. Buffaloes have large horns to protect themselves from predators. They live in huge herds on grasslands. Asian buffaloes also live on wetlands. They cool down in pools of water when it gets to hot. Buffaloes eat grass, herbs and leaves. They mostly eat at night. A baby buffalo is called a calf. The herd helps the mother buffalo to protect her calf.
